"Varen doe je samen" or "Gefahren wird gemeinsam!" is the name of the initiative in which all interest groups of waterway users in the Netherlands have joined forces. In addition to harbour operators, commercial shipping, the water authority and the ANWB, the ADAC Hollands, the water sports association is also represented. The aim is to make traffic on the increasingly busy waterways safer through mutual understanding before legal intervention unnecessarily restricts freedom on the water.

To this end, information brochures are regularly published, including the "Knooppuntenboekjes", brochures that provide specific information about important traffic junctions and the correct behaviour of all parties there. The "Boekjes" are published in six editions for the various areas of the Netherlands. They are also available for download ready.

Also in the programme: the brochure on the "Staande Mast Route", the unique waterway connection that runs right across the country and can be navigated with a standing mast, i.e. without fixed bridges in the way, including a night-time convoy trip through Amsterdam. The new booklet provides 40 pages of detailed information about the alternative routes, the current planning for closures and the new interactive information boards along the route. It also provides the telephone numbers of lock and bridge keepers and harbour masters - a practical aid for anyone who wants to take the SMR 2012 by the bow. The brochure can be downloaded free of charge from the Website of the initiative.
